How To Treat And Prevent Dry Hair

CARE

Oil treatment– Oil rich in Vitamin E is perfect for dry and frizzy hair as it helps to seal the outer layer of the hair or cuticle with moisture and thus repairs the damage. You can use Olive or almond oil in winters and coconut oil in summers. Castor oil is good too but then you will have to mix it with another oil for the application as it is too dense and thick to use alone.

For the best oil treatment take lukewarm oil and gently massage the scalp and the hair with fingertips, do not put too much pressure just do it gently. You can take steam once you are done massaging, or can also take help of hot towel wrap. For the wrap dip the towel in hot water and squeeze out the water completely, wrap it all over the hair and leave for 15-20 minutes. A hot wrap or steam helps the pores to open up and the oil to absorb nicely. For best results leave the oil overnight and wash off the next morning.

Use Mild shampoo and conditioner– Choose the products according to your hair type. A mild gentle shampoo preferably herbal would be a better choice for you as harsh and strong chemicals can ruin the situation further.

Coconut milk– This is a great food for dry hair as it contains all the essential nutrients required for healthy hair. It also boosts and promotes healthy hair growth.

Egg mask– Egg contains a lot of protein which is essential for the revival of dry hair. Beat an egg and apply it all over the hair, keep it for 30-40 minutes and wash off with shampoo and cool water. This mask brings in an instant shine to the hair making it feel softer like never before.

Don’t use harsh chemicals and take prevention– Nowadays most of the products are filled with chemicals which can damage your hair, stop using hair gels, perfumed oils, hair straitening products, basically anything which will kill the breathe of your hair. Things to look out for are…

-Stay away from hair dryer as it makes the hair more dry and prone to breakage.

-Avoid excessive sun exposure, use hat or cap when out in the sun.

-Use head cap while swimming as the chlorine water of the pool can damage your hair. Rinse the hair with 1/4 cup of apple cider mixed with 3/4 cup of water before going to the beach or after a swim.

-Use a natural hair mask atleast once a week.

-Do not wash hair too often and when doing so use cold water only. Hot water damages the hair cuticles and results in loss of hair moisture.

-Go for regular trimming, trimmings helps in getting rid of split ends and promotes faster growth.

-Do not overuse heating tools like rollers, dryers, straighteners etc.

-Do not wash your hair too often, doing so will strip off the natural oil and moisture of the scalp and hair.

DIET

Have a healthy diet– Walnut, flax seeds, broccoli, eggs, fish, tomatoes, blueberries, kidney beans, yogurt, coconut water, aloe vera are all good for promoting healthy hair. Watch your diet and eat healthy because what you eat makes a lot of difference to your skin and hair. Take omega 3 supplements and foods rich in Vitamin A, C and H. Having iron rich foods also promotes healthier and shinier hair.

Start your day with Flax seeds– Having a spoon of Flax seeds everyday is something which you should start immediately. These seeds are a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids which is essential for healthy hair growth. It also makes the hair stronger and less prone to damage.

Drink plenty of water– Water is very very necessary for a healthy body, hair and skin. So do not neglect this part.
