Siachen Glacier, One Of The Toughest Battlefield In World Is Now Open For Tourists

In a major decision, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared Siachen Glacier open for tourists a few days back, close to about 35 years after it was closed down for the civilians .

“From Siachen Base Camp to Kumar Post, the entire area has been opened for tourism purposes,” Rajnath Singh said. Speaking at the inauguration of Colonel Chewang Rinchen Bridge at Shyok River in Ladakh, the defence minister said that Ladakh had tremendous potential for tourism. “Better connectivity in Ladakh would certainly bring tourists in large numbers.”

As a matter of fact, Siachen glacier is considered as one of the toughest battlefield in the world where temperature drops down to minus 60 degree during winters.
