Benefits Of Using Coconut Milk For Healthy Skin And How To Use It

We all know how beneficial coconut is for health. Not only its water but the fruit itself is a culinary delight. But do you know that Coconut milk is also beneficial for the skin. It has natural fats, vitamins, and skin soothing properties which provides hydration and nourishment to the skin. It acts as a natural moisturiser for dry skin, and is also beneficial for oily skin when used in moderation as a cleanser.

Benefits of Coconut Milk for Skin

  1. Moisturizing – Rich in lauric acid, natural fats, it hydrates, nourishes and moisturises dry, flaky, or irritated skin. So if you are facing excessive dryness then applying fresh coconut milk after cleansing the face thoroughly would definitely help. You can keep it overnight, or use it for at least 30 minutes which includes 5 minutes of delicate massage.
  2. Soothing – Coconut milk is excellent for skin irritation and sun burns as it contains anti-inflammatory properties, which can help calm redness and itchiness.
  3. Anti-aging – Packed with Vitamin C and E, coconut milk supports collagen synthesis and protects against oxidative damage, essential for maintaining skin’s firmness. It may help improve skin elasticity and reduce fine lines over time.
  4. Brightening – The mild exfoliating properties may help reduce dark spots or uneven skin tone.
  5. Cleansing – You can also use it as a cleanser for removing makeup or dirt off your face. It will gently cleanse the skin without stripping its natural moisture and oil.

How to Use Coconut Milk on Skin

1. As a Cleanser

  • In a bowl add a spoon of coconut milk along with some plain water or coconut water and mix nicely. Dip a cotton pad and wipe the entire face. You can also wet your hands and message gently to loosen up the dirt and thereafter rinse with lukewarm water.

2. As a Moisturizing Mask

  • Mix coconut milk with honey, lemon juice, aloe vera gel. You can also add oats powder to this mask to thicken the consistency. Apply it all over the face and keep for at least 20 minutes.

3. For Sunburn Relief

  • Pour coconut milk in ice cube tray and refrigerate. You can use them straight out of the fridge to soothe and relax skin burn. You can also mix aloe vera gel with coconut milk for added benefits.

4. In a Bath Soak

  • Add coconut milk along with bath salt to warm water. Relax in this water and soak yourself for 20-30 minutes for full body hydration.
