Nauvari sarees are the pride of Maharashtra. This is a queen’s drape as propagated by many, and whether you are looking to attend a traditional event, getting married, or want to attend a fancy dress party, this look will be ethereal. The term ‘nauvari’ means ‘9 yards’.

Different Nauvari Saree Draping Styles Decoded
Marathi Lavani Drape
You will find this to be the most popular style adopted by Maharashtrian Lavani dancers. You have to tuck the pleats in the front high enough, for freedom of movement in this style.
Warrior Drape
In ancient India, female soldiers used to flaunt this draping style. It emulates the dhoti, which is ideal for performing physical combat. You must wear this style, with your hair tied high.

Fisherwoman Style
This is a more relaxed version, minus too much accessories. The Koli community women in Maharashtra, wear this style often. You must wear the drape a bit high for ease of movement. Additionally, you can also wear this style for folk events and festivals. Glass bangles go well with this drape. Fisherwomen usually wear it with a blouse, with the end of the saree tied around the waist.
Kolhapuri Style
Amongst the different nauvari saree draping styles, this is quite popular for cultural events. Moreover, you wear it looser than the Brahmani style, pairing it with nath and glass bangles.

Deshastha Brahmin Style
This is a traditional drape, in which Brahmin women, wear the pleats tight, while wearing the pallu over the shoulders. Maharashtrians wear it for Upanayan puja and Satyanarayan puja.
