The well known Hinduja group is all set to begin the work for their very first hotel and that too in London. They have acquired the iconic Heritage building in London, known as ‘Old War Office’ which was once inhibited by Britain’s war-time president Winston Churchill. They purchased it from the British Ministry Of Defense.
The building spread over 580,000 sq feet and spread over seven floors, is located at 57, Whitehall, close to British Parliament and Prime Minister‘s residence. The 1,100 rooms of the Heritage building will be restored and redeveloped by the group and will be turned into a 5 star hotel and residential apartments. The building has been acquired by the Hinduja group in partnership with Spanish industrial company Obrascon Huarte Lain Desarrollos (OHLD). The building was constructed between the start of the 20th century and the outbreak of the First World War. The Old War Office has witness to events of utmost importance, most notably the World Wars, with crucial decisions having been taken within its walls.
The Hinduja Group of company was founded in 1914 by Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, who was from a Hindu family based in Sindh, India (now in Pakistan). Initially operating in Mumbai, India he set up the company’s first international operation in Iran in 1919. The headquarters of the group moved to Iran where it remained until 1979, when the Islamic Revolution forced it to move to Europe. Srichand Hinduja and his brother Gopichand moved to London in 1979 to develop the export business.
