The Disciple wins at Venice Film Festival

Chaitanya Tamhane’s ‘The Disciple’ Wins Best Screenplay award at the Venice International Film Festival

Marathi language film The Disciple and has won the Best Screenplay award at the 77th Venice International Film festival. The festival was held on Saturday and live-streamed globally.

The Disciple is a 2020 Marathi drama film written, directed and edited by Chaitanya Tamhane. The film also won the FIPRESCI Critics Prize.

The Disciple has become the first Indian film since Monsoon Wedding (2001) to compete at the festival. Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding had previously won the prestigious golden lion award at the same festival.

Chinese-American filmmaker Chloe Zhao bagged the coveted Golden Lion for Nomadland.

Bollywood showered love and appreciation to the film for winning the prestigious award. Here are a few tweets…
