Lord Dhanvantri is a Hindu God and avatar of Lord Vishnu who arose during the Samudramanthan with the pot of amrit. He is known as the god of ancient Indian medicines and Ayurveda. Dhanteras is also known as Dhanwantari Trayodashi and therefore we worship him on this day to seek his blessings for good health and prosperity.

The Indian Government declared to celebrate Dhanwantari Trayodashi or Dhanteras as National Ayurveda day to mark the birth of the Lord of Ayurveda, God Dhanvntri. The day is being celebrated since 2016.
