One fabric which is synonymous with winters is Velvet. It is a light to medium weight fabric which keeps you warm, and also has a sheen on it, and therefore it becomes the idle choice for the people who want to be dressed for a party in winters. It is also one of the the mot glamorous fabrics and designers have used it in many different ways for their high end collections. Velvet is a type of woven tufted fabric in which the cut threads are evenly distributed, with a short dense pile, giving it a distinctive feel and is also soft to feel. There are different varieties of velvet like it can be made through synthetic fibers and with natural fibers like silk and cotton too. In earlier times, this fabric was so expensive that only rich and famous could afford it.

Well, its a designer’s delight fabric and many domestic and international designers have explored it in their own way. For Bollywood though it seems that the trend has become a favorite among celebs. Her are a few spotted flaunting this latest trend….

Sarees with velvet accents are very popular for the season. Sarees with embroidered pallas in contrast color velvet, like the one Hema Malini is wearing is a good option. Alternatively you can also pair a velvet Ordhni or dupatta on one shoulder along with your regular saree. This is a good style option instead of wearing a shawl.
