Sabudana Recipes For Navratra Fasting

Sabudana is abundantly used during fasting and can be made in various ways like salted or sweet. Sabudana vada, sabudana kheer and sabudana khichdi and sabudana bhel are few basic popular dishes. Sabudana Ladoo– Roast sabudana on low flame, for this you need patience as it will take 20-25 minutes for the sabudana pearls to roast completely, you will see them turning brownish in color. Now cool them completely and grind. Remember not to grind when they are hot otherwise they will stick to each other and will become soggy. If you like coconut and cardamom flavors then dry roast them a little bit and finally mix the sabudana powder into this. Add sugar according to taste and finally add oil or ghee to this mixture. You can also add fried cashews to this mixture. Make balls and the ladoos are ready.

Sabudana Bhel– A quick and filling recipe. Heat some oil in a pan and saute pre soaked sabudana pearls in it. Once done, add boiled potato cubes, roasted peanuts, black salt, green chilies, coriander leaves, chat masala and lemon juice. If you like you can also add a bit of red tamarind chutney to this mixture for a true bhel flavor.

Sabudana Vada– Soak the peals overnight and boil the potatoes and mash them. Now mix the drained sabudana pearls and mashed potatoes. Coarsely grind the roasted peanuts, remember not to make it into a powder. Now add this mixture to the previous one and add green chillies, rock salt, ginger, coriander leaves and lemon juice. Mix and make small balls in a shape of round flattened vadas. Deep fry them and serve with Sabudana Vada green chutney.

Sabudana kheer– Keep milk to boil in a pan and add pre soaked sabudana in it. Keep boiling till the pearls become soft and completely cooked. Add sugar, cardamom and saffron strands. You can add dry fruits in the end.

Sabudana Thalipeeth– Mix pre soak sabudana pearls into mashed potatoes and add cumin seeds, coarsely powdered peanuts, salt, green chillies, ginger, coriander leaves and lemon juice. Now grease your hands with oil and flatten the mixture with your palms and put it in a hot greased pan. Cook it from both the sides till golden brown and crisp.
