Dying Naturally with Turmeric

Turmeric has a special place in Ayurveda because of its healing and antibiotic properties. We use it in Food, in medicines, even as a beauty product, but it also has dying properties. And yes and its simple to use like any other pigment dyes. When dyed, it leaves a beautiful yellow color on the fabric, the depth of the color depending upon the time you soak your fabric into the dye solution. You can also create beautiful Tie and Dye patterns for a customized look.  The best thing about using turmeric as a dye is that you are free from the guilt of using pigment dyes, and we all are aware of the amount of toxins the chemical dye produce, resulting in harming the atmosphere. And we surely do not wish to do so. The little we can do to preserve the environment is to use natural resources, which again return back to the nature without harming it.

Do take care of the fabric you choose for the dying project, as natural colors are best for natural fabrics. Your dye will penetrate easily on natural fibers like Cotton, Silk, Wool, Linen etc. resulting in brighter and even colors. Whereas the result for the mixed fabrics wont be the same. Also the color variation will depend on the duration for which you keep your fabric inside the dye solution. If you want a light hue, then do not keep your cloth in the dye solution for long. In the same way, if you want a darker hue, then keep the stuff in the dye for a longer period until you achieve your desired color.
